This suggests to me that the problem may be with the spreadsheet, not the mail merge.īecause of the data entry requirements, it is impractical to set the Excel format to 'text'. Use the Insert Merge Field button to select the fields in your Excel file and add them to the label. Now you need to tell Word which fields you want and in what order. Once your list has been selected, your Word screen will look like this. When I look at the spreadsheet itself, dates are shown (as they have been formatted that way). In the next dialog box, select the sheet in Excel that contains the list.
#Mail merge from excel to excel serial
When I click 'edit recipient list' in Word and it shows the Mail Merge Recipient list, if I scroll to the right to the two date fields, one shows a date as a serial number, (the one I am having problems with) and the second shows the date in the US style Why does one date appear correctly but the other appear as a serial number? This is driving me insane. Important: we cannot guarantee that the Mail Merge tool will work (or will keep working in the future) with your particular email account.

I have set the file format conversion check box in advanced options as suggested on other posts on this forum. I have tried formatting as 'date' and as 'custom', and again both dates have identical formatting, but one remains different. I used the Name manager in Excel and named all of the columns. I did it last year but dont remember how. I have a table of information.each row is a client.and I want to create a letter per row (or client) using the data in Excel. The format in the Excel worksheet is also identical. This is probably very simple and basic but, I want to do a mail merge within Excel and not use Word. I have cut and paste and re-written but to no effect. Changes or additions to your spreadsheet are completed before its connected to your mail merge document in Word. In both date field codes I have added the switch: "dd MMMM yyyy" This switch is identical in both merge fields, including spaces. The Excel spreadsheet to be used in the mail merge is stored on your local machine.

The second mail merge date field displays an Excel date of 26/3/15 as: 26 March 2015 - which is exactly what I want. The first mail merge data field displays an Excel date of 27/3/14 as: 41725 Hi, I have a mail merge word document that imports two date fields from Excel, but one of the dates is not displaying correctly.
